Team Scramble's little sojourn to Birmingham for the No Gi British Open.
You can see:
My bad form on kettlebells!
Andy's absolute robbery of three points for passing the guard and securing side control that wasn't given!
My not defending a triangle very well!
My serving up my neck on a silver platter for someone!
The inside of a Holiday Inn in Birmingham!
AND MUCH MORE!!!
(Actually not much more.)
Let’s get our fantasy picks in for UFC 106. Members can login and go here to make picks, and anyone not already wearing a Team Fightlinker jersey can get in on the action by following this post’s instructions. For the record, my picks for the aired fights are after the jump: – Tito over Forrest by unanimous [...]
Everyone made weight for the Strikeforce Challengers show tonight. The newsworthy item? This fantastic photo by the great Esther Lin taken after Kerry Vera and Kim Couture got off the scale. It brings up a good question after seeing last weekend’s fight between their husband and guaranteed paycheck, respectively: Who would you rather fight for [...]
Here’s an interesting story from Mac Danzig I read on Sherdog: Seven years ago, I was coming off a decision loss in the WEC that was held in Connecticut. As if a five-hour plane ride back home after a disappointing loss wasn’t miserable enough, Tito Ortiz was sitting directly in front of me. He had been [...]
I think the tweets from Dana White (via Cage Tater) above are pretty self explanatory. Very little info coming back from Karo, but MMAWeekly has one of those ‘excuses’ Karo gave - the old “It’s the government’s fault” line, with Karo claiming the Nevada State Athletic Commission wouldn’t re-license him until he paid […]
The UFC headliner trainwreck continues as Anderson Silva sends word that his recently surgerized elbow isn’t healing as quickly as originally expected. “I went to the doctor who takes care of me in Brazil on Monday. I had surgery in the United States but there is communication between the two medical teams. To sum it up, [...]
Karo Parisyan has had a pretty shitty two years - he went from being a top contender in a stacked welterweight division to unimpressive headcase in the span of a few fights. This weekend he’s taking on Dustin Hazelett, and I have no doubt that if Karo isn’t the Karo of old he’s gonna have [...]
Poor Dana White. He’s trying to put together some winning hands here with half the royalty missing from his deck of cards. Considering everything, I think he and Joe Silva are doing decent job with their lemons to lemonade matchmaking. Sure, there’s barely any belt defenses, but we all know why. It’s time to accept [...]
Folks, if you only read one of my blog posts, please make it this one. This means a lot to me.
I have launched an online store.
Scramble Stuff
It’s a shop, based in the UK but ships anywhere in the world, that brings you, BJJ, grappling and MMA fans, some absolutely awesome and pretty damn unique stuff.
At [...]
Some quick thoughts on the No Gi open that have been rattling around my head…
I moved out of my comfort zone and tried the takedown followed by top game. What sucks about this is that I realised I had almost no real experience doing this, especially in training where I have mostly been using my [...]

I won’t bother describing the whole weekend as I will be uploading a video showing the adventure later on.
This is about the BJJ!
First up was Andy, who’s been training MMA for a while, and grappling only a few months. My advice to him was to “be first”, knowing that the person who initiates or completes [...]
Our sweaty little mats were graced by Jeff Lawson today!
I had met Jeff a couple of times and been blown away each time at just how friendly and generous he is. It seems to be a running thing actually… the harder the fighter, the more humble and down to earth they are.
Luckily for me, he [...]
Day 1 of preparing for the comp.
We decided on the following routine, to best use our time in the month or so we have left.
5 min regular jiu jitsu warmup
5-10 min drilling basic moves (subs, sweeps)
3 min standup drills
30 min sparring
5 min hard cardio (non-stop dash, pressup, situp, sprawl, switch, etc.)
Round robin
Hmm, somehow I have decided to enter.
My training took a bizarre turn and I seem to be really enjoying no-gi stuff at the moment. Why not jump in headfirst? I’ll be leading the Scramble collective into battle on November 1st.
That means more training, more blogging, and more focus for my jiu jitsu. Excellent!
I will bring [...]
Just a quick update.
Training is going pretty well, getting together at least once a week to lead a small group of BJJ enthusiasts.
Check it out here, google! BJJ grappling and jiu jitsu in Christchurch!
We will try to compete later in the year, and use that as motivation to train hard.
Have been doing mostly no-gi lately, [...]
I must be turning Japanese because the announcement of Cro Cop in a super-surprise grappling match against Ralek Gracie at Dream 4 has got me salivating very heavily indeed.
It’s exactly the kind of freak matchup that can only happen in Japan, I love it. One of the world’s elite MMA stars, specifically a devastating striker [...]
