Grappling Dummies BJJ TV: No Gi British Open 2009 from martial farts on Vimeo.

Team Scramble's little sojourn to Birmingham for the No Gi British Open.

You can see:
My bad form on kettlebells!
Andy's absolute robbery of three points for passing the guard and securing side control that wasn't given!
My not defending a triangle very well!
My serving up my neck on a silver platter for someone!
The inside of a Holiday Inn in Birmingham!
AND MUCH MORE!!!
(Actually not much more.)

  • Reminder: UFC 106 fantasy picks
Let’s get our fantasy picks in for UFC 106. Members can login and go here to make picks, and anyone not already wearing a Team Fightlinker jersey can get in on the action by following this post’s instructions. For the record, my picks for the aired fights are after the jump: – Tito over Forrest by unanimous [...]
  • Boner alert: Vera/Couture weigh-in photo
Everyone made weight for the Strikeforce Challengers show tonight. The newsworthy item? This fantastic photo by the great Esther Lin taken after Kerry Vera and Kim Couture got off the scale. It brings up a good question after seeing last weekend’s fight between their husband and guaranteed paycheck, respectively: Who would you rather fight for [...]
  • Story time with Mac Danzig
Here’s an interesting story from Mac Danzig I read on Sherdog: Seven years ago, I was coming off a decision loss in the WEC that was held in Connecticut. As if a five-hour plane ride back home after a disappointing loss wasn’t miserable enough, Tito Ortiz was sitting directly in front of me. He had been [...]
  • JackalFights: Caol Uno vs. Jean-Jacques Machado
Here is some good old grappling featuring a guy fighting on Saturday
  • Karo Parisyan gets himself kicked out of the UFC
I think the tweets from Dana White (via Cage Tater) above are pretty self explanatory. Very little info coming back from Karo, but MMAWeekly has one of those ‘excuses’ Karo gave - the old “It’s the government’s fault” line, with Karo claiming the Nevada State Athletic Commission wouldn’t re-license him until he paid […]
  • Anderson’s elbow is still screwed up
The UFC headliner trainwreck continues as Anderson Silva sends word that his recently surgerized elbow isn’t healing as quickly as originally expected. “I went to the doctor who takes care of me in Brazil on Monday. I had surgery in the United States but there is communication between the two medical teams. To sum it up, [...]
  • JackalFights: Genki Sudo vs Jackson Page
    More Genki Sudo!
  • Celebrate good times, COME ON!
Sometimes Jose Aldo like to do the dance, do the dance!
  • Does Karo have his shit together?
Karo Parisyan has had a pretty shitty two years - he went from being a top contender in a stacked welterweight division to unimpressive headcase in the span of a few fights. This weekend he’s taking on Dustin Hazelett, and I have no doubt that if Karo isn’t the Karo of old he’s gonna have [...]
  • Couture vs Coleman at UFC 109
Poor Dana White. He’s trying to put together some winning hands here with half the royalty missing from his deck of cards. Considering everything, I think he and Joe Silva are doing decent job with their lemons to lemonade matchmaking. Sure, there’s barely any belt defenses, but we all know why. It’s time to accept [...]

Two very important things about the No Gi British Open!

1) I’ve worked out a deal whereby you will be able to buy BJJ Spirits, Grappling Spirits, Paraestra Instructionals and Robert Drsydale’s book at the official shop on the day so please look out for them. This is the only place in the UK where you will be able to get your hands on them, [...]

British Open of Grappling is this weekend!

So, the day approaches.
In the end, it’s only me and Andy competing with A coming up for moral support.
Andy should do well. He’s competing in the beginner’s category, but he is strong and fast and determined. It depends on who he comes up against but he should have a good showing. Hope there aren’t any [...]

Pics and Video! Event: OJJ BJJ Festival, Jan. 11 2009

Grappling Dummies 5 from martial farts on Vimeo.
I put a lot into the above video so please enjoy! Look out for the completely random and hilarious interlude which is one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time which is why I had to include it.
Last Sunday, I went to the [...]

Kick him when he’s down!

Sheesh. I went to training today with a fresh, positive outlook.
Jiu jitsu is a game and I was ready to play it more enthusiastically than anyone.
Had a good warmup. There are a few coloured belts there so sensei decides to stage a mini tournament, as practice. I’m paired up with a purple belt.
We square off [...]

June 22nd - Kyushu Open BJJ tournament

I’m putting the last competition behind me and looking to the next one.
It’s pretty close.
On the off chance that there are any foreigners in Kyushu who are interested in entering but can’t find the details online, here they are.
Unfortunately you need to be a member of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation of Japan to enter.
Kyushu [...]

BJJ May 9, and a minor crisis.

Went to BJJ last night, the first class after the competition.
Usually I feel good after a comp, win or lose. I have always felt that competing is like firing clay… you’ve been moulding and pushing and prodding, then when you compete, it hardens, and you reach a new level, then you start moulding again.
Skill-wise I [...]

BJJ April 7

Regular training session.
There was only me and a purple belt, Ide-san, then a white belt turned up after a while. The BJJ classes seem to be thinning out lately, I wonder what’s going on? Shooto meanwhile seems to be absolutely packed with sweaty noobs punching the air like they were swatting flies.
I felt spectacular for [...]

Damien Maia - Science of Jiu Jitsu

I watched some of Damien Maia’s Science of Jiu Jitsu, which you can buy here.
It was pretty good. His explanations were sometimes a little hesitant but I think that’s because he is speaking English rather than his native language. And more power to him, very impressive. I am sure later instructionals when his English has [...]

My comp from a few months ago

First blue belt competition. I knew I’d lose, but just wanted to guage the waters.
Result? Deep!

I lost.
No excuses, everyone was way better than me. But I had a [...]

Started Judo.

Wednesday nights, at a local junior high school.
A couple of peeps from jiu jitsu are judo black belts and are teaching there for free. Also there is an old sensei-type dude who surprised the shit out of me by talking to me with an African-English accent! Turns out he was chief of police somewhere in [...]
